Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has honoured Master Michael Offorkaile, the Abia-born student who scored 367 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), emerging as the fifth-highest scorer nationwide.
Governor Otti received the outstanding student, his parents and the management of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State, at the Government House in Umuahia, where he commended the student’s exceptional academic achievement.
The governor said his administration remains committed to rewarding excellence and merit, stressing that outstanding Abians would continue to be recognised and celebrated.
Dr. Otti also pledged to support Master Offorkaile’s university education and directed the Commissioner for Tertiary Education to work out the details of the state’s assistance.
He encouraged the student to regard his UTME success as the beginning of greater academic accomplishments and urged him to strive for excellence throughout his university education.
Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, said the governor personally directed that the brilliant student be identified and brought to Abia for recognition, describing the honour as a testament to the administration’s commitment to academic excellence.
The student’s father, Mr. Odinaka Offorkaile, and the Principal of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Mr. Ige Bello, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for celebrating the young scholar and for his continued investment in education.
In his remarks, Master Michael Offorkaile thanked the governor for the recognition, describing him as a role model and pledging to continue making Abia State and Nigeria proud through academic excellence.
