The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir (Hon.) Allwell Ihunda, DSSRS, JP, has ordered the suspension of dredging activities in Ozuboko Community and warned developers against building on waterways following recent flooding in the area.

The directive was issued during an inspection of flood affected areas in Ozuboko Community on Tuesday, 21 July 2026.

Residents blamed ongoing dredging by APS Aladivibo for the flooding, alleging the company failed to provide adequate drainage. The company, however, maintained that some residents had blocked natural waterways by erecting structures on them.

Mayor Ihunda said the Council had received complaints and video evidence showing extensive damage to homes and livelihoods. He directed the immediate suspension of dredging activities pending a meeting between the company and community leaders to find a lasting solution.

The Mayor also inspected flood prone areas in the Elekahia axis, including the Orogbum Primary Healthcare Centre, and assured residents that blocked drainage channels would be cleared to reduce future flooding.
