The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has arrested 22 motorists for committing 61 traffic offences during a special enforcement and mobile court operation conducted along the Awka–Onitsha Expressway.
The Sector Public Education Officer, SRC Margaret Onabe, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the operation, tagged “Fushin Kada” Special Intervention Patrol, was carried out in compliance with directives from the FRSC National Headquarters.
According to the statement, all 22 offenders were arraigned before a mobile court presided over by Her Worship Maria Anyabolu, where 21 offenders were convicted while one person was discharged.
The offences recorded during the exercise included seatbelt violations, overloading, driver’s licence violations, failure to install speed limiting devices, dangerous driving, number plate offences, assault on a road safety marshal, attempted bribery of an FRSC official and other traffic-related violations.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, said the operation was aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations, promoting responsible driving and reducing road traffic crashes across major highways in the state.
She urged motorists, especially commercial and private vehicle operators, to obey traffic laws, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and always carry valid vehicle and driver documentation.
The FRSC assured road users that enforcement operations would continue as part of efforts to enhance road safety and protect lives and property in Anambra State.
