The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh, has flagged off the second phase of his Agricultural Input Empowerment Programme aimed at boosting food production and supporting farmers across the senatorial district.
The programme, held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Field in Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area, was organised in partnership with Pinatech Engineering Nigeria Limited and the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu.
The event was attended by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, traditional rulers led by the Igwe of Ebenebe, HRH Igwe Nnaemeka Christopher Nnaegbuna, community leaders and other political stakeholders.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Senator Umeh said the initiative was designed to strengthen agricultural production and help cushion the effects of the current economic hardship by providing farmers with essential farming inputs.
As part of the programme, the senator distributed 300 bags of 50-kilogramme fertiliser and more than 20 multipurpose irrigation and spraying machines to beneficiaries across the district.
He urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the farming inputs to improve productivity and achieve higher crop yields, stressing that increased agricultural output remains critical to enhancing food security.
Senator Umeh also announced that the empowerment programme would be extended to other local government areas, particularly agrarian communities within Anambra Central Senatorial District.
He commended Pinatech Engineering Nigeria Limited and the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu, for partnering with his office to support local farmers and promote agricultural development.
The lawmaker encouraged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity provided by the intervention and expressed optimism that the programme would contribute to increased food production, improved livelihoods and sustainable agricultural growth across the senatorial district.
