Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State, has emerged the overall winner of the maiden edition of the SkillUp Imo Contest, clinching the first, second and third positions in the statewide digital skills competition held in Owerri.

The competition brought together young digital talents from various training centres across Imo State, who showcased their creativity by producing video documentaries highlighting five key achievements of the Imo State Government.

Entries were assessed based on video editing, production quality and audience engagement on social media, including likes, comments and shares.

At the end of the contest, students of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede dominated the competition, with Dorcas Paul emerging overall winner to receive a cash prize of ₦150,000. Kelvin Joseph secured second place and received ₦100,000, while Ubi Augusta finished third and was awarded ₦50,000.

The competition, held at the Imo Digital City Limited (IDCL), highlighted the growing digital capacity of students at the institution and reinforced the polytechnic’s reputation as a centre for innovation, information and communication technology (ICT) training and practical skills development.

Reacting to the achievement, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Dr. Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, attributed the success to the institution’s sustained investment in digital literacy, innovation and youth empowerment.

She noted that the management, through the Directorate of ICT, has continued to provide students with industry-relevant digital skills capable of preparing them for opportunities in the evolving technology sector.

Organisers of the competition also commended the Imo SkillUp Centre Coordinator, Udo Ezekiel Ekpenyong, and the winning students for their creativity, technical excellence and commitment, describing their performance as a reflection of the growing digital talent in Imo State.
