The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has commended the Idemili South Local Government Area for promoting healthy living through community sports, describing the initiative as a model for other communities across the state.
Dr. Soludo gave the commendation at the flag-off of the Healthy Living Sports Competition, organised by the Idemili South Local Government under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Iyom Amaka Obi.
According to a statement issued by her media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, the First Lady said the initiative aligns with the Anambra State Government’s vision of building healthier, more productive and united communities through preventive healthcare and active lifestyles.
She described the competition as more than a sporting event, noting that it provides a platform for promoting physical fitness, teamwork, recreation and social interaction among residents.
Dr. Soludo praised the Executive Chairman of Idemili South, members of the council’s Healthy Living Team and other stakeholders for successfully organising the event and encouraging community participation.
She noted that the large turnout reflected the growing awareness among residents of the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles.
The governor’s wife further stressed that sports remain an effective tool for promoting discipline, resilience, teamwork and peaceful coexistence, particularly among young people.
She urged other local government areas and communities across Anambra State to adopt similar initiatives as part of efforts to deepen the Healthy Living culture and improve the overall wellbeing of residents.
The Healthy Living Sports Competition forms part of the broader Healthy Living Initiative championed by Dr. Nonye Soludo, which promotes preventive healthcare, regular physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices across Anambra State.
