Miracle Ezechukwu says her experience competing against elite athletes this season has given her the confidence to chase more success at the World U-20 Championships after she opened her Commonwealth Games campaign with victory in the women’s 100m heats in Glasgow.
The Nigerian sprinter clocked 11.32 seconds from lane eight to win her heat and book an automatic place in the semi-finals alongside compatriots Blessing Ogundiran and Rosemary Chukwuma.
For Ezechukwu, the victory was a memorable start to her first Commonwealth Games appearance, as she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Nigeria on the global stage.
“Being here, I would say it’s just God. I’m going to thank God for everything. Me being here, representing my country, my team and my family, I’m just happy to be here,” she said.
The 100m prospect revealed that she was confident before the race after seeing the line-up, adding that staying focused helped her overcome the difficult conditions in Glasgow.
“When I saw the list, I was like, I’m good to go. It was just about running my race. The cold is too much, but I focused and forgot about everything. No matter what, we still run,” Ezechukwu added.
