Residents of Obot Akara Local Government Area on Wednesday received food items as the fourth phase of the state government’s free food distribution initiative, under Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, got underway across Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Simon Dominic Akpan, thanked Governor Eno for extending the initiative to Obot Akara and other local government areas in the state.
“Today is a great day in Obot Akara, and I thank His Excellency the Governor for this free food initiative in Obot Akara, and not just Obot Akara, but all the local government areas in Akwa Ibom State. The people in Obot Akara are happy,” Akpan said.
The chairman described Obot Akara as a farming community, saying residents are largely self-sufficient in food production.

fon Jacobson reported that “Obot Akara people are farmers, and we are the food basket of the state, and we produce food independently” he said.
Akpan said the distribution had been structured to reach residents at the ward level across the local government area’s 11 wards, with the exercise targeted at vulnerable persons and people living with disabilities.
“We are 11 wards in Obot Akara. Ward PAs will capture this food to the last vulnerable people in their ward, and this initiative is for the vulnerable and the people with disabilities, and that shows how compassionate the government is,” he said.
Speaking on the 2027 general election, Akpan said Obot Akara residents are in support of Governor Eno’s bid for a second term.
“Talking about the 2027 election, the Obot Akara people are solidly behind the Governor for re-election, and we are fully prepared and ready,” he said.
A resident living with a disability, Akaninye Ifiok, corroborated the chairman’s remarks, saying the government’s support for Obot Akara had extended beyond food distribution to financial empowerment.
“The Governor has also empowered us with some finances. Disabled Persons in Obot Akara are beneficiaries of compassionate homes, not only in Obot Akara but across Akwa Ibom State. We have benefitted 500,000 naira from the small-scale enterprises,” Ifiok said.
Ifiok also cited the rehabilitation of the Mbiaso Road as evidence of the administration’s development record in the area.
“Four years ago, the road of Mbiaso was not good, but thanks to the Governor, that road is motorable now,” Ifiok said.
Ifiok added that Obot Akara would continue to support Governor Eno’s re-election ambition in 2027.
“We are very grateful, and in the coming 2027, the people of Obot Akara are fully supportive of the Governor,” Ifiok said.
The food distribution under the arise agenda of Governor Eno is touching lives positively.
