Oro Nation is widely recognized as one of the most resource-rich areas in Akwa Ibom State, with significant contributions to the state’s oil and gas sector. The five local government areas that make up Oro Nation—Urue-Offong/Oruko, Mbo, Okobo, Oron, and Udung Uko—are often reported to host about 377 oil wells. According to the figures presented, Urue-Offong/Oruko has 94 oil wells, Mbo 92, Okobo 86, Oron 66, and Udung Uko 39.
The region is also home to several important oil fields that have contributed to Nigeria’s petroleum industry. These include the Ibom Field, estimated to contain over 103 million barrels of oil and which commenced production in 2024 under Emadeb Exploration and Production. Other notable fields are Oron West in OML 123, operated by NNPC, the Oroni Field, which has been producing since 1970 with reserves exceeding 52 million barrels, and the Ebok Field, located offshore and operated by Oriental Energy.
Supporters of Oro Nation argue that these natural resources make the area a major contributor to Akwa Ibom’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading oil-producing states. They believe this wealth should translate into greater infrastructure, employment opportunities, improved social amenities, environmental protection, and increased economic development for host communities. The message ultimately calls for unity and sustained advocacy to ensure that the benefits of the region’s abundant natural resources positively impact the people of Oro Nation while contributing to the continued growth and prosperity of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria as a whole.
