The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two wanted suspects linked to kidnapping activities in the state as part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, arrested one Dauda Mohamed during an intelligence-led operation.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in Kogi State and admitted participating in several kidnapping operations during interrogation.
The command further alleged that the suspect identified one Umar Ali as the leader of the gang, accusing him of coordinating logistics and supplying weapons used in the group’s operations.
Police also identified two other alleged members of the syndicate, identified simply as Usman and Gongola, who are currently at large.
Investigations further linked the suspect to the abduction of a victim at Divine Heritage Lodge in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, where armed men reportedly emerged from an uncompleted building behind the lodge, fired gunshots, abducted the victim into a nearby bush and later demanded a ransom of ₦30 million.
The police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in the fight against crime.
