Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade have exhumed the remains of a community leader, Chief Ibe Anyadu, from a shallow grave in Umudike Forest, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, following an intelligence-led operation.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lt. Col. Olabisi Ayeni, the breakthrough followed the recent arrest of suspects linked to the killing of a Nigerian Army soldier and the recovery of stolen service weapons.
The Army disclosed that during interrogation, one of the suspects confessed to participating in the murder of Chief Anyadu and subsequently led troops to the location where the victim was buried.
On August 2, 2026, security operatives recovered the remains from a shallow grave within Umudike Forest, identified as one of the hideouts used by the criminal group.
The exhumation was carried out in the presence of the deceased’s family members, local vigilante operatives from Ohaji/Egbema, and representatives of Aggah and Umudike communities.
The Nigerian Army said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace and security across the South-East.
