“Because the club has always been one of my favourites. That’s the main reason. I also think the prospects here are very good. There are plenty of examples of players who’ve come here and taken a big step forward in their careers. I believe I’ll be able to develop really well here and learn a lot. That’s why I’ve come here.”
What do you already know about the club, the city and the stadium?
“BVB have the best fans – the craziest, in a good way! 80,000 – I’ve never played in front of so many people before. So that’s very exciting for me. I also know that they’re hard-working, intelligent people. That’s quite similar to the people from my home town of Genk. It’s nice to know that.”
Did you speak to anyone beforehand to find out more about BVB? Or about the Bundesliga?
“Yes, I’ve got a few friends who play in the Bundesliga, so I asked them about the league. Plus, of course, lots of my footballing colleagues know BVB as a club. I asked them about the club and they were all very positive about it and thought it was a good move for me. That just reinforced my decision.”
For the BVB fans who might not know you that well yet: how would you describe your playing style?
“I’d describe myself as a creative player and also as someone who always works hard and tries to help the team.”
What are your goals here in Dortmund, both personally and with the team?
“My personal goals are to keep developing as much as possible, to take the next step in my career, to score more goals and to make a contribution to the team. And from the team’s perspective, my goal is, of course, to win titles – and not just one. Yes, that’s my plan: to win titles and to help the team as much as possible.”
