The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has officially flagged off its campaign for the August 22 local government elections, with party leaders expressing confidence of securing victory across the state’s 13 local government areas.
The campaign commenced in Ikwo Local Government Area on Monday, where party stakeholders called for intensified grassroots mobilisation and increased collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the polls.
Presenting the party’s flag to the APC chairmanship candidate for Ikwo LGA, Mr. Chidi Nwode, Governor Francis Nwifuru urged party members to remain united and work collectively to ensure victory.
The governor described the party’s chairmanship and councillorship candidates as credible and capable, while calling on supporters to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid actions that could threaten the peaceful conduct of the election.
Governor Nwifuru also commended the outgoing Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Mr. Sunday Nwankwo, for promoting peace, unity and development during his administration.
Former Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi, who chaired the event, urged political actors to conduct their campaigns peacefully and respect the constitutional rights of citizens to freely associate with political parties of their choice.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Moses Odunwa, appealed to residents to maintain peace before, during and after the election, while encouraging eligible voters to actively participate in the electoral process.
Also speaking, the member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chinedu Ogah, described the campaign flag-off as the beginning of the party’s statewide mobilisation ahead of the August 22 local government elections.
