The immediate past Commissioner of Police in Abia State, AIG Danladi Isa, has urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, describing public cooperation as vital to sustaining peace and security in the state.
Isa made the appeal during a farewell ceremony held in his honour in Umuahia following his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and redeployment to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Kaduna.
The former police commissioner expressed appreciation to the Abia State Government, security agencies and residents for their support throughout his tenure, attributing the state’s improved security to the backing of Governor Alex Otti, effective collaboration among security agencies and the willingness of residents to volunteer intelligence.
He also charged officers and personnel of the Abia State Police Command to remain professional, accessible and respectful in their interactions with members of the public, noting that effective community policing remains key to crime prevention.
Representing Governor Alex Otti, the Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, described Isa as a disciplined and dedicated officer whose leadership contributed significantly to improving security across the state.
Also speaking, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Rtd. Navy Commander Macdonald Uba, commended Isa’s professionalism and urged him to replicate the same commitment in his new assignment.
The Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Chief Ifeanyi Igboanulam, and the representative of the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Elder Odum Amogu, also praised Isa’s contributions to community policing and security, while Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Ohazuru Ifeanyi, lauded his commitment to officers’ welfare and inclusive leadership.
Meanwhile, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka has officially assumed office as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, with responsibility for police operations in Abia, Imo and Ebonyi states.
The new AIG succeeds the late AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu and pledged to strengthen security across the zone through intelligence-driven policing and closer collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, religious bodies, civil society organisations and the media.
He assured residents of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property while calling on members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and actionable information.
