Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has directed contractors handling sections of the Trans-Saharan Highway in the state to strictly adhere to approved engineering standards and project specifications to ensure the delivery of quality infrastructure.
The governor gave the directive during an inspection of the 118-kilometre stretch of the highway linking Ndibe Bridge in Afikpo through Abaomege, Onueke, Ezza South, Ukwuachi, Ezza North, Ishieke and Mbeke in Ebonyi State to Gboko in Benue State.
As part of the inspection, Governor Nwifuru visited the proposed flyover site at Ukwuachi, a key component of the project aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving the movement of commuters and goods.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a transformative infrastructure drive in the South-East, noting that the ongoing road projects are accelerating development across the region.
Governor Nwifuru assured contractors of the state government’s support in addressing challenges that could delay the project, particularly issues relating to compensation and project evaluation.
He, however, warned that the government would not tolerate poor workmanship, the use of substandard materials, diversion of project funds or any deviation from approved engineering designs.
The governor specifically charged Infouest Construction Company Limited, the contractor handling the project, to ensure strict compliance with quality standards and timely execution of the road.
He also renewed his call on the people of the South-East to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development in the region.
Earlier, the Federal Controller of Works in Ebonyi State, Engr. Maxwell Okoha, said the proposed flyover was incorporated into the project to improve road safety, reduce traffic congestion and enhance the movement of people and goods.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Infouest Construction Company Limited, Mustapha Mohammad, assured the governor that the company would deploy the required resources to ensure the timely and quality completion of the project.
