Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has successfully conducted a peaceful, transparent and credible online Students’ Union Government (SUG) election, marking another milestone in the institution’s drive to promote digital innovation and democratic governance.
The election, held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, recorded impressive student participation through a secure online voting platform and was monitored by independent student bodies, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), and the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS).
Chairman of NANS JCC in Anambra State, Comrade Ifeanyichukwu Chukwuemeke Chukwuemerie, commended the Rector of the institution, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, for introducing the online voting system, describing the exercise as one of the most transparent and credible student elections conducted in a Nigerian tertiary institution.
He noted that the adoption of technology enhanced the integrity of the electoral process while eliminating many of the challenges associated with conventional campus elections.
Also speaking, the Vice President-elect of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), Rotractor Comrade Umuzurola Chukwuebuka, described the election as peaceful, well-organised and credible, applauding the Polytechnic’s management for providing an enabling environment for a transparent electoral process.
The outgoing SUG President, Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu Joseph, and the outgoing Vice President, Comrade Nweke Kosarachukwu MaryJane, expressed appreciation to the institution’s management for prioritising students’ welfare and introducing an online voting system that promotes transparency and confidence in campus elections.
At the end of the exercise, Giant Comrade Egbobe Chinonso Christian of the Mass Communication Department emerged as the new SUG President, while Comrade Eze Bibian Chinenye was elected Vice President.
The newly elected leaders thanked students for their support and pledged to work closely with the institution’s management to promote students’ welfare, unity and the continued development of the Polytechnic.
The presidential contest was decided by a margin of just two votes, highlighting the competitiveness and credibility of the electoral process.
The successful conduct of the election is regarded as another achievement under the administration of Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, reflecting the institution’s commitment to leveraging technology to strengthen governance, transparency and democratic participation among students.
