Billionaire businessman and founder of Jezco Oil and Jezco Group, Sir Joseph Eze Okafor, has reportedly been abducted by unidentified gunmen in Awka, Anambra State.
Okafor, who is also the father of Nigerian social media personality Jowizaza, was allegedly kidnapped while praying at a mountain in Awka, according to a lawyer, Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, who disclosed the incident in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Iwuchukwu alleged that the businessman had gone to the prayer mountain alone without his security details and police personnel who were usually attached to him.
According to the lawyer, the gunmen allegedly took Okafor to an unknown destination during the prayer session.
The reported abduction has reportedly caused concern among residents of Ekwulobia, the businessman’s hometown, with Iwuchukwu describing him as one of the most prominent and influential indigenes of the community.
He further claimed that the community had postponed its annual New Yam Festival following the reported incident, saying members considered it inappropriate to proceed with celebrations while the family of their prominent son was facing such a situation.
The lawyer said the festival had reportedly never been postponed previously, underscoring the level of concern generated by the businessman’s alleged abduction.
However, details surrounding the reported incident, including the circumstances of the alleged abduction, the identity of the perpetrators and the whereabouts of the businessman, remain unclear.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the Anambra State Police Command regarding the alleged abduction.
Authorities are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the report as efforts continue to ascertain the businessman’s whereabouts.
