Jeff Bezos is reportedly nearing an agreement to acquire a major minority stake in Liverpool, potentially bringing the Amazon founder into the ownership structure of one of English football’s biggest clubs.
According to reports, Bezos is part of a consortium led by Amit Bhatia, with the group understood to be closing in on a deal for roughly 30% of Liverpool. Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is also reportedly involved in the consortium. (Sky News)
The reported agreement would value Liverpool at around £4.4 billion, making the potential transaction one of the biggest investments involving an English football club. (Global Banking & Finance Review)
Importantly, the proposed deal would not represent a full takeover. Liverpool would remain under the control of Fenway Sports Group (FSG), with Bezos and the wider consortium taking a significant minority position.
A 30% holding would nevertheless represent a substantial investment and could give the incoming investors considerable influence within the club.
Bezos, one of the world’s most prominent billionaires and the founder of Amazon, has previously shown an interest in sports ownership. A move into Liverpool would represent his most significant step into English football.
The reports have already generated huge reaction among Liverpool supporters, with many now wondering what the potential investment could mean for the club’s future.
