The family of Anambra-born businessman and industrialist, Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, has dismissed reports that he has been released from captivity, saying the billionaire has spent seven nights in the custody of his alleged abductors.
Ezeokafor, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Jezco Oil, was reportedly abducted in the early hours of Tuesday last week at a Catholic prayer ground in Ifite, Awka, Anambra State.
According to the family, armed men stormed the prayer ground at about 2:00 a.m. while the businessman was there for his regular prayer and spiritual retreat.
The family said Ezeokafor had regularly visited the prayer ground and was reportedly there as part of his personal religious practice.
It also disclosed that he had contributed to the development of the prayer facility, including the construction of the prayer house and access roads.
However, the family said it has yet to establish contact with the alleged abductors, despite the passage of seven nights since the incident.
The family also expressed concern over the businessman’s health, saying he is reportedly without his regular medication for high blood pressure.
“We are deeply worried about his health and safety. We are praying and hoping that he will return home alive,” the family said.
The family consequently appealed for calm and urged the public to disregard social media reports claiming that Ezeokafor had regained his freedom.
Ezeokafor is the founder of Jezco Oil, an integrated energy company with interests in petroleum products, lubricants and related businesses.
He is also known as the father of popular Instagram personality, Jowizaza.
The reported abduction has continued to generate concern among family members, friends, associates and members of the community, with prayers and appeals ongoing for his safe release.
The family urged relevant authorities and security agencies to intensify efforts towards securing his safe return home.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Anambra State Police Command confirming the circumstances of the reported abduction or providing details of any ongoing investigation.
