The Abia State Police Command has welcomed a new Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, who has assumed duty as the 35th Commissioner of Police in the state.
CP Afolabi takes over from AIG Danladi Isa, who was recently promoted and redeployed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Kaduna.
The new Commissioner, according to a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, is a seasoned police officer with over three decades of experience in policing, administration and international peacekeeping operations.
Afolabi enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from the University of Ilorin, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s degree in Peace and Security Studies from the University of Port Harcourt.
Before his deployment to Abia, CP Afolabi served as Commissioner of Police in Ondo State and held several strategic positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, CID, Katsina; DCP Operations, Bayelsa; Area Commander in Anambra; and Divisional Police Officer in Abuja.
He also has extensive international peacekeeping experience, having served as Pioneer Sector Commander in Southern Darfur under the African Union Mission in Sudan and as Nigeria Contingent Commander with the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prior to his current posting, he served as Commissioner of Police, Administration, Training and Development, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The Abia State Police Command said the new Commissioner is expected to build on existing security strategies and strengthen efforts to protect lives and property across the state.
The Command called on residents, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, religious organisations and other stakeholders to support CP Afolabi in his efforts to enhance security and maintain peace in Abia State.
