Niger Gas has assured hospitals across Enugu State of adequate medical oxygen supply, with the company targeting production of up to 400 cylinders daily at full operational capacity.

The Chief Operating Officer of Niger Gas, Amos Egesi, disclosed this on Tuesday while conducting members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu, on a tour of the facility.

Egesi said the company currently produces about 80 cylinders of oxygen daily but would increase production to not less than 400 cylinders per day when it reaches full capacity.

He said the increased production would enable Niger Gas to meet the oxygen requirements of hospitals across the state within the shortest possible time.

According to him, the company commenced full operations about four months ago, adding that its products have already attracted customers from outside Enugu, including traders from Onitsha.

Egesi explained that Niger Gas produces natural oxygen, medical oxygen and acetylene used for welding.

He commended the Enugu State Government for reviving the company, which had remained dormant since the 1980s, saying its return to operation was creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic activities in the surrounding communities.

He noted that the area had witnessed increased commercial activities since the company resumed operations, with more people purchasing land, constructing houses and establishing businesses around the facility.

The Chief Operating Officer said the revival of Niger Gas was contributing to the broader economic development of the state while restoring the relevance of one of the industrial projects established during the era of the former Eastern Region Government under the late Premier, Dr. Michael Okpara.

The journalists’ visit formed part of the Enugu State Government’s organised tour of projects being executed under the administration of Governor Peter Mbah.
