Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has urged Geometric Power, operators of Aba Power, to explore alternative sources of gas supply to prevent a recurrence of the prolonged power outage recently experienced in Aba.
Governor Otti made the call when he received the management of Geometric Power, led by its Chairman, Prof. Barth Nnaji, at the Government House in Umuahia.
The governor commended the company for restoring electricity supply to Aba after the city and surrounding areas were left without power for about two weeks due to a shortage of gas from its supplying firm.
Otti acknowledged the significant impact of the blackout on residents, businesses and industries, stressing that reliable electricity had become an important part of economic activities in Aba.
According to him, residents had become accustomed to consistent power supply under his administration, making prolonged outages particularly disruptive.
“What we need to do now is to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. So, we need to make it permanent, whatever it takes,” the governor said.
He expressed appreciation to the management of Geometric Power for resolving the crisis, while urging the company to put measures in place to guarantee uninterrupted gas supply to its power plant.
The governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to working with Geometric Power and other stakeholders to sustain reliable electricity supply and further drive industrialisation, business growth and economic development in Aba and other parts of Abia State.
Governor Otti maintained that ensuring stable power supply remained critical to the administration’s efforts to create an enabling environment for businesses and industries to thrive.
