Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Spain international midfielder Rodri in a blockbuster transfer reportedly worth around €70 million.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano announced the deal on Sunday with his trademark “Here we go!”, signalling that the two clubs had reached an agreement.
According to Romano, Manchester City gave Barcelona the green light after the Catalan club improved its offer for the 30-year-old midfielder, bringing an end to intense negotiations over the former Ballon d’Or winner.
Rodri joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and went on to become one of the most influential midfielders in European football.
During his spell at the Etihad, he played a pivotal role in City’s success, including the historic treble-winning 2022/23 campaign. His outstanding performances for club and country also saw him crowned the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.
A move to Barcelona would see Rodri return to Spanish football and give the Catalan giants one of the world’s leading defensive midfielders as they strengthen their squad for the new season.
However, the transfer is not yet formally complete, with the final documentation still to be exchanged and completed before the deal can officially be announced.
Rodri’s expected arrival would represent one of Barcelona’s biggest moves of the summer transfer window and a major coup for the Spanish giants as they prepare for the new campaign.
