History was made in Adazi Ani Ancient Kingdom, Anambra State, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, as businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Chinedu Benson Madubuko, OFR, was crowned Eze Chinechendo I of Adazi Ani.
The colourful coronation ceremony attracted traditional rulers, government representatives, religious leaders, business personalities, community leaders, youths, women and indigenes of Adazi Ani from within and outside the country.
The coronation was performed by the three clans that make up Adazi Ani, reflecting the community’s traditional structure and acceptance of the new monarch. The Anaocha Traditional Rulers Zone also represented the Anambra State traditional institution at the event.
In his welcome address, the President-General of Adazi Ani Town Union, Prof. Obikwelu Raphael Okonkwo, described the coronation as the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the kingdom.
Okonkwo said the crown represented not only honour and prestige but also the responsibility to protect the people, preserve the community’s cultural heritage, promote peace and drive development.
He urged indigenes of Adazi Ani, both at home and in the diaspora, to unite behind the new monarch and contribute to the growth and prosperity of the kingdom.
Speaking at the ceremony, renowned businessman, Chief Godwin Okeke, described Madubuko’s emergence as a fulfilment of the wishes of the people.
Okeke commended the new monarch for his contributions to infrastructure and human capital development in Adazi Ani, as well as his efforts towards promoting peace and unity.
Also speaking, the retired Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and former Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Godwin Okpala, expressed optimism about the future of the community under the new traditional leadership.
He said Madubuko’s passion for development and service to the people would help position Adazi Ani among the most respected communities in the South-East.
Responding to the goodwill messages, the newly crowned monarch, Igwe Dr. Chinedu Benson Madubuko, Eze Chinechendo I, expressed gratitude to God and the people of Adazi Ani for entrusting him with the traditional institution.
Madubuko pledged to uphold the laws and regulations governing traditional institutions in Anambra State and promised to place the interests of the community above his personal interests.
The monarch said he would build on his previous contributions to Adazi Ani, with renewed emphasis on infrastructure, human capital development, peace, unity and sustainable growth.
He thanked the people, dignitaries, friends and well-wishers who attended the ceremony and contributed to its success.
The coronation marked a significant moment in the history of Adazi Ani, combining traditional heritage with renewed expectations for peace, unity and development under the reign of Eze Chinechendo I.
