The GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative (GHWFI) has secured the release of five inmates from the Nigerian Correctional Service Custodial Centre in Owerri, Imo State, after settling their court-ordered fines.
The intervention was led by the Director-General of GHWFI, Hon. Humphrey Ikeaka, during a visit to the custodial centre on Friday.
The team was received by the Deputy Comptroller and officers of the correctional facility.
The beneficiaries, comprising four persons from Imo State and one from Abia State, had been serving prison terms ranging from three to eight years before their release.
GHWFI said the intervention was made possible with the support of the Imo State Government and the First Lady of Imo State, Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, whose humanitarian efforts have continued to focus on vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society.
The released inmates expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing their freedom as an opportunity to rebuild their lives, reunite with their families and reintegrate into society.
They also pledged to turn over a new leaf, obey the law and contribute positively to their communities.
According to GHWFI, the intervention reflects its commitment to redemption, rehabilitation and second chances, particularly for individuals who have fulfilled the legal requirements for their release but may lack the resources to secure their freedom.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to restoring dignity, supporting vulnerable people and creating opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives and rewrite their stories.
