The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) has distributed 6,000 bags of rice to 3,000 widows in Anambra State as part of its quarterly welfare intervention, with its founder, Sir Emeka Offor, warning against the abuse and unlawful dispossession of vulnerable people.
The distribution exercise took place on Sunday in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, where Offor reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of widows and other vulnerable members of society.
The philanthropist said the quarterly rice distribution remained one of the foundation’s major welfare programmes, stressing that it was particularly important to him because of its direct impact on widows.
“My foundation, Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, has a lot of support packages for diverse people, but the one that is most dear to me is the quarterly distribution of rice to widows,” Offor said.
He also warned individuals against abusing or dispossessing widows of their property, promising that the foundation would use lawful means to protect their rights.
“We will hire lawyers—we already have them—and we will use any means that is lawful to ensure that such acts don’t stand,” he said.
According to Offor, the foundation conducts the rice distribution four times annually for widows in Oraifite and has also provided housing for some beneficiaries.
He announced plans to construct an additional 20 bungalows for widows this year as part of the foundation’s housing intervention.
Offor explained that the latest distribution included an additional allocation to compensate for the second-quarter exercise which he could not attend in May.
He said each of the 3,000 widows would receive two bags of rice during the latest exercise to make up for the missed distribution.
The founder also called on the Anambra State Government to strengthen legal protection for vulnerable citizens and impose stiffer sanctions on individuals who exploit or violate their rights.
Earlier, the Chairman of the foundation, Mr Tony Obi, commended Offor for his sustained commitment to the welfare of widows and other vulnerable groups.
Obi said the philanthropist had expressed a strong sense of fulfilment from the initiative, describing it as a meaningful way of giving back to society.
Also speaking, the President-General of Ozubulu Community, Hon. Vin Dike, described SEOF as a prominent philanthropic organisation with a strong focus on vulnerable members of society.
Dike commended Offor’s contributions to the community, particularly in road construction, educational scholarships, housing for widows, healthcare and other social interventions.
The latest distribution forms part of SEOF’s wider humanitarian programmes covering food support, housing, education, healthcare and social welfare.
For the 3,000 beneficiaries, the intervention provides immediate household assistance while reinforcing calls for stronger institutional protection against the abuse and dispossession of vulnerable people.
