As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, some stakeholders and residents of Abia North Senatorial District have expressed support for the re-election of the incumbent senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, citing his experience and constituency interventions.
The endorsements were contained in a recent assessment of the senator’s representation, with supporters arguing that continuity would enable the district to consolidate ongoing development initiatives.
The Chairperson of the Cultural Committee of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, NIDO, UK South, Hon. Ebere Nwokenna, popularly known as Lady Eby, urged the people of Abia North to assess Senator Kalu’s performance based on the impact of his projects and programmes on their communities.
A constituent, Comrade Otis Ojo, also described Kalu’s years in public service as an advantage, saying his experience had given him an understanding of the needs of the people and strengthened his capacity to represent the district.
He cited interventions in grassroots development, infrastructure, youth empowerment, healthcare, employment and legislative representation as areas where he said the senator had made an impact.
Similarly, Comrade Oji Ujah Oji, Abia State Director of the Abia Eyewitness Network for Tinubu, said Kalu remained well positioned to represent the district in 2027.
He said the organisation supported Kalu’s re-election after considering what he described as the senator’s political credentials and record of representation.
Another constituent, Ogbonnaya James Njoku, popularly known as Hon. Pa James, said political representation should be measured by accessibility, interventions and the ability of elected officials to attract opportunities to their constituents.
He maintained that Kalu had demonstrated what he described as a strong record in constituency projects, interventions and human capital development.
The Abia State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Uche Aguoru, who is not from Abia North, also commended Kalu’s performance, describing him as a politician who had contributed to community development and human capital advancement.
Aguoru highlighted several road interventions reportedly facilitated by the senator, including projects in Item, Ohafia, Aro and other communities across Abia North.
He also pointed to interventions in education, including school renovations, scholarships and the distribution of instructional materials to schools within the senatorial district.
According to supporters, the senator’s interventions in education and youth development are aimed at improving learning opportunities and preparing young people for greater economic and professional opportunities.
However, with the 2027 election approaching, the choice of representative for Abia North will ultimately be determined by voters at the polls.
The emerging endorsements for Kalu underscore the growing political contest for the senatorial seat, with experience, constituency projects and continuity expected to remain key issues in the campaign.
