The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has named Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman as the new Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League, as major changes hit the league’s administrative structure at the start of the 2026/27 season.
Abdulrahaman steps into the role with immediate effect, taking charge as the NPFL begins its new campaign.
The leadership change was announced on the same day the season got underway, with attention centred on the opening fixture at Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan, between CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Shooting Stars and newly promoted Inter Lagos FC.
A holder of a doctorate in Sports Administration, Abdulrahaman brings years of experience in football management and league administration. His career has seen him work across different levels of the Nigerian league system, giving him considerable knowledge of the structures and operations of domestic football.
His arrival comes alongside the departure of NPFL chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye and Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, who have been relieved of their positions.
Abdulrahaman is now tasked with overseeing the league’s operations as the NPFL enters a new season and a fresh phase of its administration.
