Former Anambra State Governor and presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has met with the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Pasquale Salvaggio, and members of his team.
The meeting focused on issues surrounding Nigeria’s forthcoming elections, democratic development and ways to strengthen citizen participation in the country’s political process.
According to Obi, the discussions also covered economic development, trade and investment, education and increased participation of women in politics.
The former governor said strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions and encouraging greater citizen involvement remain important to building a stable and prosperous country.
Obi stressed that a peaceful and economically prosperous Nigeria would not only serve the interests of its citizens but would also strengthen the country’s relationship with Canada and its engagement with the wider African continent.
The meeting comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders increasingly engaging local and international partners on issues concerning Nigeria’s democratic and economic future.
