Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he expects to be among the first politicians targeted if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election to either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi.
Wike, who has remained one of Tinubu’s most outspoken political supporters, said his open commitment to the President’s re-election had made him a prime target of the opposition.
Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, monitored in Abuja on Wednesday, the FCT Minister said he was fully aware of the political consequences of his position but remained unrepentant.
“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” he said.
Despite the perceived risks, Wike insisted that Tinubu’s re-election remained his overriding political priority, saying his daily activities and thoughts were centred on ensuring the President secures another term in office.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he stated.
The former Rivers State governor also dismissed the criticisms and name-calling that have followed his decision to support Tinubu, saying he has endured more political attacks than most politicians because of his stance.
“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he declared.
Wike’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Tinubu facing potential challenges from opposition figures including Atiku and Obi.
The FCT Minister has repeatedly made clear that he intends to stand firmly behind Tinubu, regardless of the political backlash or personal consequences that may follow.
