Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill into law following its passage by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The development comes after a noticeable delay in the consideration and approval of the budget by the Assembly.
The bill was unanimously passed by 26 lawmakers during the House’s resumed sitting in Port Harcourt on Thursday and was immediately transmitted to Governor Fubara at the Government House for his assent.
According to the Assembly, the approved budget will cover the fiscal year ending on September 2, 2027.
Fubara had earlier, on June 25, submitted the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF, to the Assembly as part of the process leading to the preparation and consideration of the 2026 budget.
The approval also brings a development in the relationship between the executive and the legislature, as it is reportedly the first time the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, has approved a budget presented by the Fubara administration.
