The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed four police officers following an investigation into the death of a fresh University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo, in Port Harcourt.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday, saying the officers were subjected to disciplinary proceedings after their alleged involvement in the incident was established.
The incident occurred along Ada George by Agip Junction, where a police patrol team reportedly attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Obodo.
According to the Commissioner, the deceased allegedly failed to stop, prompting the officers to pursue the vehicle.
Adepoju said during the chase, Corporal Alfred Louis, one of the officers on duty, allegedly opened fire at the vehicle, resulting in injuries that led to Obodo’s death.
The Police Command said disciplinary action was subsequently taken against the four officers following the outcome of its investigation.
The dismissal comes amid calls for justice over the death of the young graduate, with the incident raising concerns over police conduct and the use of firearms during routine patrol operations.
