The lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has expanded his Operation Light Up Ideato initiative with the installation of 500KVA transformers and other electricity infrastructure in three additional communities.

The latest phase covers Ogwume, Dikenafai and Akpulu, bringing the number of communities reached by the initiative to seven.

According to the lawmaker’s media office, transformers, electricity cables and other essential electrical components are being installed as part of efforts to improve power supply across communities in Ideato North and Ideato South.

The transformer installation in Akpulu has been completed, while work is ongoing in Ogwume and Dikenafai.

The latest intervention builds on previous transformer installations in Umuopia, Obodoukwu, Abukwa and Umukegwu.

Ugochinyere, who also chairs the House Committee on Downstream Petroleum, said the expansion was aimed at addressing critical electricity infrastructure needs at the grassroots and improving access to power in communities that have experienced inadequate electricity infrastructure.

His media office described Operation Light Up Ideato as an ongoing community-focused programme, rather than a one-off intervention, adding that additional transformers are expected to be supplied and installed in other communities identified as requiring electricity infrastructure.

Ugochinyere reaffirmed his commitment to extending the programme to every community in Ideato requiring improved electricity infrastructure.

He said the objective was to progressively reduce the gap in power availability across the constituency.
