The Ebonyi South Youth Assembly has rejected a statement allegedly circulated online by former Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Government, Chief Emmanuel Igwe, claiming that the Unwueru Kindred of Izzi Clan had resolved to support the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The National President of the group, Mr. Odii Njoku, said in a statement issued in Abakaliki that the organisation would ordinarily have ignored the statement but was compelled to respond to what it described as misinformation capable of creating unnecessary tension among the people.

Igwe had reportedly claimed that the Unwueru Kindred had “drawn the line” to vote for the PDP.

However, Njoku dismissed the claim, insisting that members of the kindred were satisfied with the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru and had remained supportive of his bid for re-election.

The youth assembly also questioned Igwe’s authority to speak on behalf of the Izzi people, alleging that he was not from Izzi and should instead concentrate on political activities within his Ezzagu community.

“Let him come to Ebonyi State and campaign for his candidate. Let him tell the people what his candidate will do for them instead of making statements from Abuja,” the group said.

The organisation further accused Igwe of attempting to create political tension within Izzi, which it described as a peaceful and hospitable community.

The youth assembly also made allegations concerning Igwe’s previous roles as a Special Assistant to the state government.

It alleged that during his tenure as Special Assistant on Park Development, some of his activities generated controversies and divisions among members of his community.

The group further alleged that his tenure as Special Assistant on Land Development was characterised by controversial land-related activities and claimed that some individuals were left stranded following financial transactions.

The allegations could not be independently verified from the information available.

The Ebonyi South Youth Assembly also criticised what it described as Igwe’s attempt to promote the PDP governorship candidate through social media while allegedly failing to engage directly with voters in his community.

It challenged him to return from Abuja to Ezzagu and demonstrate his political influence at his polling unit.

The group urged the people of Izzi to disregard what it described as political propaganda and continue to support Governor Nwifuru, whom it credited with developmental achievements in infrastructure and human capital development.

Njoku also commended Governor Francis Nwifuru and Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi for what the group described as quality representation and contributions to the development of their people.

“Apart from his developmental strides which cut across the three senatorial zones in the state, the Governor has shown commitment in addressing some of the challenges facing Izzi Clan,” Njoku said.

He added, “Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi on his own has shown capacity, trust and true representation of his senatorial zone, and his Izzi brothers and sisters are very happy with him.”

The youth body, however, urged political actors to ensure that their differences do not undermine the peace and unity of the Izzi people or trigger unnecessary conflict as the 2027 elections approach.
