Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has declared that he has no serious challenger ahead of the 2027 governorship election, expressing confidence that his performance in office will secure his re-election.
Although Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Chief Ifeanyi Odii is expected to challenge him at the polls, Nwifuru insisted that his achievements across the state had left him without a rival.
The governor spoke on Saturday at Amagu, the ancestral home of the Izzi clan in Abakaliki Local Government Area, during the grand finale of the clan’s new yam festival.
Nwifuru recalled that he won 10 of Ebonyi’s 13 local government areas in the 2023 election, saying he was confident of winning all 13 in 2027.
“Go and write down what I am telling you today. In 2023, we won 10 out of the 13 local government areas of the state, we won 10 local governments.
“In 2027, we will win the entire 13 local governments. This is because we have performed very well.
The governor attributed his confidence to what he described as improved security and infrastructure across the state.
“In this state, people are sleeping with their two eyes closed, people are walking freely day and night without security issues.
“Secondly, there is no local government in this state that we have not done 2km road and other life-touching projects.
“These local governments have 20km roads constructed by us. In Ebonyi Local Government, we have done over 100km road projects and these roads are virgin roads, roads that have not been constructed before,” he told the mammoth crowd.
Nwifuru also urged members of the Izzi clan to discourage anyone from the area who may be seeking the governorship seat on the platform of an opposition party.
He further declared that the APC would retain every elective position in Ebonyi State in the 2027 general election.
“No single candidate of APC from House of Assembly to the top position will fail election in Ebonyi State, no single person under the party will lose any election.
“I will not allow any single candidate of APC to lose election, I won’t. Let me say this loud and clear.
“I am the political leader in this state and I represent my party. They should do their worst! Let me see them, they should do their worst because we will win all the elections,” he boasted.
The governor’s comments underline his confidence in the APC’s political strength in Ebonyi ahead of the 2027 elections.
