Joint security forces in Anambra State have rescued a 16 year old boy, Favour Ayogu, who was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and later abandoned in Onitsha.

The Anambra State Police Command said the rescue followed a strategic joint security operation conducted on the evening of Sunday, September 13, 2026.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police said a joint patrol team operating at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road, Onitsha, intercepted the teenager after unidentified persons allegedly dropped him near a security checkpoint.

According to the statement, the boy was reportedly dropped from a black Toyota Highlander SUV by unidentified persons before the patrol team swiftly intervened and rescued him.

The Command said the operation prevented further harm to the teenager and has prompted intensified surveillance and intelligence-led measures aimed at identifying, tracing and arresting those responsible for the alleged abduction.

The police said the victim is believed to have been abducted in Igboeze South and subsequently taken to Anambra State before being abandoned in Onitsha.

The Command is now appealing to members of the public to assist in reuniting the teenager with his family in Enugu State.

It particularly urged residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State who may have information about the boy or his family to contact the nearest police station or the Anambra State Police Command.

The Command assured the public that efforts to identify and apprehend the suspected abductors would continue as security agencies intensify operations across the state.
