The Benin Writers Society (BWS) has endorsed the newly established Benin City Business School, describing the institution as a positive development capable of strengthening entrepreneurship, intellectual growth and human-capital development in Edo State.
In a statement issued by its President, Douglas Ogbankwa Esq., on September 14, 2026, the Society said the establishment of the Business School was “a good step in the right direction.”
The Society noted that Benin City, with its long history of commerce, creativity and enterprise, deserved an institution capable of connecting academic knowledge with entrepreneurship and innovative ideas with industry.
According to the BWS, the Business School has the potential to go beyond training entrepreneurs and business leaders by stimulating intellectual discourse, promoting economic growth and contributing to human-capital development in Edo State and Nigeria.
The Society also commended the President of Benin City Business School, Mr Akin Ojo-Longe, a former Permanent Secretary in the Edo State Ministry of Education, for his vision in establishing what it described as a trail-blazing institution in the Edo-Delta axis.
The BWS further acknowledged Ojo-Longe’s contributions to the intellectual community in Benin City through activities sponsored at his City Cafe facility, including the Benin Writers’ Poetry Playground, City Cafe Book Club and Barefoot.
The Society pledged its support and willingness to partner with the Business School towards the success of the institution.
It stressed that writing, critical thinking and business development are interconnected forces that can contribute significantly to national development.
The Benin Writers Society congratulated the promoters of the Benin City Business School and expressed optimism that the institution would make a meaningful contribution to the educational, entrepreneurial and economic landscape of the region.
