The Abia State Police Command has arraigned a man identified as Uzoma Uwaeme over the alleged gruesome abuse of his 13 year old son, while reaffirming its preparedness to provide security for the 2027 general elections in the state.
According to the command, Uwaeme was arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction following the conclusion of investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and has subsequently been remanded in correctional custody.
The command also disclosed that the 13 year old victim had been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care, rehabilitation and continued protection.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on September 16, 2026. The command said Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for victims of abuse and holding perpetrators accountable under the law.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station.
Abia Police Assure British High Commission of Election Security
Meanwhile, the Abia State Police Command has reaffirmed its readiness to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible electoral environment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
CP Afolabi gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the British High Commission Nigeria Political Team, led by Second Secretary Political, Wendy Shepherd, at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The visit focused on the command’s preparedness for the 2027 elections, citizen engagement, collaboration with political parties and measures aimed at promoting peaceful and secure elections across the state.
Afolabi said officers of the command were undergoing training and retraining to strengthen professionalism, operational readiness and intelligence-led policing.
He also highlighted the command’s collaboration with sister security agencies, noting that he had undertaken strategic engagements with relevant agencies to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and promote a coordinated approach to security ahead of the elections.
The Commissioner further pointed to the ongoing Community Safety Partnership Initiative, which is aimed at deepening engagement with residents, promoting public safety education and strengthening cooperation between the police and communities.
He reiterated that the command remains apolitical and would continue to deploy both overt and covert operational strategies to proactively address security concerns and maintain law and order across Abia State in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
Afolabi also assured that the command would continue working with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to protect children and safeguard the rights and welfare of residents across the state.
The two developments highlight the command’s stated focus on both protecting vulnerable persons and strengthening community and inter-agency security cooperation as it prepares for the 2027 electoral period.
