A wedding scheduled to take place in Abia State on Saturday, September 19, 2026, between Mr. Samuel Isaac Ogbonnaya and Miss Gift Oriaku has been cancelled less than 24 hours before the ceremony.
Ogbonnaya announced the cancellation on Friday, September 18, citing what he described as “irreconcilable developments” that had recently arisen between him and his prospective in-laws.
In a statement announcing the decision, he apologised to family members, friends and other invited guests for the inconvenience caused by the sudden cancellation.
Reports surrounding the development indicate that the disagreement was allegedly connected to arrangements for the bride’s Idu Uno, a traditional send forth ceremony held in some communities following a marriage.
According to the reports, the bride’s family had contacted a wealthy relative based in the United States regarding financial support for items needed for the ceremony. The relative was reportedly said to be unavailable until December and allegedly proposed that the wedding be postponed until then.
The bride was reportedly said to have communicated the request to Ogbonnaya on Wednesday, September 16, only three days before the scheduled wedding.
Attempts to resolve the disagreement reportedly failed, resulting in the cancellation of the ceremony shortly before the planned date.
The circumstances surrounding the cancellation have attracted attention, particularly because of the timing of the announcement, coming just a day before the wedding.
