Residents of Osaa Ukwu community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State have been thrown into mourning following the alleged killing of a woman, Mrs. Nwaigbe Nwakanma, popularly known as Daa Nwaigbe, by her son.
The man, identified as Livingston Nwakanma, was reportedly arrested by youths of the community after he allegedly fled following the incident.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday when the deceased, said to be a popular trader in the community, was reportedly in her home preparing food before her son allegedly attacked her with a machete.
The attack reportedly resulted in her death, leaving members of the community in shock and mourning.
The suspect was said to have fled the area after the incident before community youths reportedly apprehended him.
The deceased’s husband, identified as Dede Nwakanma, confirmed the death of his wife and expressed grief over the incident.
He reportedly said his son had exhibited signs of concerning behaviour for several years.
However, claims regarding the suspect’s alleged drug use and mental-health condition have not been independently verified and should not be taken as established facts pending official investigation.
As of the time of filing this report, the Abia State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged killing remain subject to investigation, including the motive and the suspect’s condition at the time of the incident.
