The Benin Writers Society has congratulated Comrade Festus Alenkhe on his reported appointment as the substantive Managing Director of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), while commending Governor Monday Okpebholo for what the society described as recognition of professional excellence.
In a statement signed by the President of the Benin Writers Society, Douglas Ogbankwa, Esq., on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the society praised Alenkhe’s leadership and contributions to the development of the state-owned broadcaster.
The group described Alenkhe as a professional who had demonstrated commitment, resilience and leadership in the management of EBS, saying his tenure had coincided with renewed activities and improvements at the station.
According to the society, EBS has witnessed increased live broadcasting, renewed programming and wider coverage of news and events under Alenkhe’s leadership.
The Benin Writers Society also highlighted Alenkhe’s professional background, particularly his work on the crime-focused programme “Crime Watch,” describing his career progression within the broadcasting industry as an example of professional advancement.
The group further commended Governor Okpebholo for his role in the appointment, describing it as recognition of competence and service.
Recent developments at EBS have also attracted commendations from other professional bodies. The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress recently passed a vote of confidence in Alenkhe and cited what it described as increased vibrancy at the station.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, also commended EBS and Alenkhe in September following the station’s live broadcast of the WAFU-B final involving Edo Queens in Burkina Faso.
The Edo State Government had appointed Alenkhe as Acting Managing Director of EBS in May 2026 following the redeployment of the former Managing Director, Sulaiman Aledeh. The government said at the time that the appointment was intended to ensure operational continuity at the state-owned broadcaster.
The Benin Writers Society expressed confidence that, if the reported substantive appointment is formally confirmed, Alenkhe would continue to contribute to the growth and development of EBS.
The society also noted that September 22 marks Alenkhe’s birthday and described the reported development as a significant birthday milestone for the broadcaster.
The group wished him a successful and impactful tenure.
