The First Lady of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has urged residents across the state to take heightened precautionary measures as flooding continues to affect some communities.
In a statement released in Awka, Mrs Soludo expressed concern over the rising flood situation and its potential impact on families, particularly residents living in flood prone areas.
She advised residents to remain vigilant, pay close attention to weather and flood warnings, avoid crossing flooded roads and waterways, and relocate to safer locations whenever their homes or immediate surroundings become unsafe.
The First Lady also urged residents to maintain clean surroundings and avoid dumping refuse into drainage channels, noting that blocked waterways can worsen flooding and increase risks to lives and property.
She particularly appealed to parents and guardians to keep children away from floodwaters, drainage channels, streams and other potentially dangerous areas during periods of heavy rainfall.
Mrs Soludo further called for increased community awareness and collective responsibility, stressing that early action and responsible environmental practices can help reduce the risks associated with flooding.
She encouraged residents to promptly report emergencies and situations requiring urgent intervention to the relevant authorities, while urging communities to look out for one another and respond quickly whenever floodwaters begin to rise.
The First Lady reiterated the importance of preparedness, vigilance and proper environmental practices in protecting lives and reducing the impact of flooding across Anambra State.
She also assured residents that the state government would continue to take necessary measures to support affected families and communities and cushion the effects of the flooding.
