Enugu Air has commenced direct international flight operations between Enugu and Douala, Cameroon, marking a major expansion of the airline’s operations beyond Nigeria.
The airline operated its maiden international flight on Wednesday, September 23, establishing a direct air connection between the South-East and Douala, one of Central Africa’s major commercial centres.
The development is also expected to strengthen the role of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, as a gateway for international travel, business and regional connectivity.
Reacting to the development, Aero Alliance Limited, the concessionaire and manager of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, described the commencement of the international route as a significant milestone for Enugu Air, Enugu State, the South-East and Nigeria’s aviation sector.
In a statement signed by its Managing Director, Saleem Amanulla, and Chief Commercial Officer, Zeeshan Akhtar, the company said the new route could enhance regional connectivity and create opportunities for commerce, tourism and investment.
Aero Alliance said the commencement of the service from Akanu Ibiam International Airport was particularly significant, describing the airport as an evolving aerotropolis connecting people, businesses and communities in the region to the wider world.
The airport operator reaffirmed its commitment to providing an environment that supports airline growth while improving convenience, safety and the overall travel experience for passengers.
Aero Alliance also pledged to continue working with Enugu Air, aviation authorities, industry stakeholders and the people of Enugu State to develop the airport as a thriving gateway to the South-East and beyond.
The company congratulated the management and staff of Enugu Air on the commencement of the international service, describing the development as a remarkable milestone.
