The ongoing ward to ward consultation tour by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu across Abia North Senatorial District continued on Saturday, as residents and community leaders in three wards in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, turned out to engage with the former Abia State governor despite heavy rainfall.
Kalu visited ABSU Umuanyi Ward 10, Achara-Mbaugwu Ward 7 and Mbaugwu Ward 19, where residents, community leaders and supporters gathered to interact with him and discuss issues affecting their communities.
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Reality Organisation, OUK Movement and other support groups were also present during the engagements.
During the meetings, residents commended what they described as projects and empowerment initiatives attributed to Kalu since his election to the Senate in 2019, while appealing for additional infrastructure in their communities.
Among the major requests raised were the provision of more accessible roads and schools to improve transportation and educational opportunities across the affected communities.
Speaking during one of the ward engagements, Hon. Damian Igbokwe commended Kalu for what he described as his impact on the area and appealed for additional projects.
He also expressed support for Kalu’s reported intention to seek another term in the Senate, saying residents appreciated projects and educational interventions attributed to the senator.
Responding, Kalu thanked the residents for turning out despite the rainfall, stressing that the exercise was intended to enable him to assess the impact of previous interventions and listen directly to the concerns of constituents.
He said leadership should be centred on service and improving the living conditions of citizens.
“Leadership is all about service and nothing else,” Kalu said, adding that the concerns raised by residents would be considered in planning further interventions.
The senator also acknowledged that, although his primary responsibilities as a legislator include lawmaking and legislative oversight, he had undertaken other interventions in response to community needs.
Kalu said the issues raised during the ward meetings would inform further action, while appreciating residents for their support.
He also called on residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, arguing that continuity would enable the administration to extend its policies and programmes to the grassroots.
The ward to ward consultation is expected to continue across Abia North, providing opportunities for Kalu to interact with constituents, assess existing interventions and receive further requests from communities ahead of the 2027 political season.
