The Anambra State Government has declared Saturday, October 3, 2026, as a statewide sanitation and environmental clean-up day to commemorate the World and National Clean Up Day.
The state Ministry of Environment announced the exercise in a public notice signed by the Commissioner, Dr Clem Aguiyi, urging residents and stakeholders across the state to participate actively.
According to the Ministry, the exercise is aimed at promoting a clean, healthy and sustainable environment across Anambra.
Residents have been directed to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their homes and surroundings, while businesses, markets, institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders are expected to support the exercise.
The Ministry further directed business premises, markets and streets to carry out their cleaning and waste evacuation activities on Friday, October 2, ahead of the statewide exercise.
As part of the directive, movement will be restricted across Anambra from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, except for persons providing essential services.
The Ministry urged market leaders, business owners and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
Residents were also advised to dispose of waste properly and maintain clean surroundings before, during and after the exercise.
Environmental officers and community sanitation teams are expected to monitor compliance, while the Ministry appealed to residents to cooperate with officials to ensure the exercise achieves its objectives.
Dr Aguiyi called on residents and stakeholders to work together in maintaining a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally friendly Anambra State.
