The National Orientation Agency, NOA, has urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to national unity, peace and development as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The Director-General of the agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, made the call in his Independence Day message, describing independence as a defining milestone that gave Nigerians the opportunity to shape the country’s future.
Issa-Onilu said Nigeria had recorded progress despite its challenges, urging citizens to acknowledge the gains while contributing to areas that require improvement.
He stressed that building the country requires collective responsibility, calling for greater participation, cooperation and responsible citizenship.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, the NOA boss urged Nigerians to respect political differences, reject hate speech and violence, and resolve disagreements through lawful and democratic means.
He also encouraged citizens to promote productivity, self-reliance, peaceful coexistence and respect for national values.
Issa-Onilu reaffirmed NOA’s commitment to promoting patriotism, national unity and responsible citizenship while providing Nigerians with accurate information on government policies and programmes.
