The Abia State Government has donated two brand new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) to strengthen their operations and support the protection of lives and property in the state.
The vehicles were presented to the two agencies on behalf of Governor Alex Otti by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (rtd.).
Ubah said the donation fulfilled the governor’s earlier promise to provide operational vehicles for both agencies, adding that the state government had also undertaken repairs on some vehicles in their existing fleets.
He said the vehicles were intended to improve the operational capacity of the FRSC and NCS and enable both agencies to discharge their responsibilities more effectively.
The security adviser urged the FRSC to intensify efforts to reduce road crashes across the state, while calling on the Correctional Service to strengthen the supervision of inmates and ensure they are taken to court as required.
Receiving the vehicle, the Abia State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ngozi Ezeoma, thanked the governor for the gesture and described it as a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to road safety and the protection of lives.
Ezeoma assured residents that the vehicle would be properly utilised to strengthen road traffic management and safety operations, with the goal of reducing road crashes and preventing fatalities.
Also speaking, the Abia State Comptroller of Corrections, Blessing Iwuanyanwu, who represented the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Nwakauche Ndidi, expressed appreciation to Governor Otti for supporting the service with an operational vehicle.
Iwuanyanwu said the vehicle would assist the Correctional Service in transporting inmates to court when required and improve its general operational efficiency.

She also acknowledged other interventions by the state government, including the provision of a gate, reconstruction of a damaged fence and improvement in power supply at the Correctional Service office.
She pledged that the service would continue to discharge its responsibilities effectively and make proper use of the support provided by the state government.
