Anambra State has secured nine honours at the 2026 President’s Teachers’ and Schools’ Excellence Awards, emerging overall winner in eight categories and first runner-up in another.

The feat accounts for half of the 18 honours presented at the national awards, with teachers, school administrators and schools from the state recognised across both public and private education sectors.

Anambra emerged overall best in the Public Primary School Administrator, Public Junior Secondary School Administrator, Private Junior Secondary School Teacher and Public Primary School Teacher categories.

The state also won in the Private Junior Secondary School, Private Senior Secondary School, Private Junior Secondary School Administrator and Private Primary School categories.

It further emerged first runner-up in the Best Public Secondary School Teacher category.

Among the awardees was Mrs Gloria Nkolika Odionu of Awada Primary School 4, Obosi, who was named Nigeria’s Overall Best Public Primary School Administrator. She received a Jetour black Jeep as part of her prize.

Mrs Agatha Chika Ofojindu of Urban Boys Secondary School, Onitsha, was also recognised as Nigeria’s Best Public Junior Secondary School Administrator and received a tricycle as her prize.

Other Anambra awardees received prizes including deep freezers and laptops across the various categories.

Reacting to the achievement, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr Ekene Ogugua, congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo, teachers, school administrators, pupils and the entire education sector in the state.

Ogugua described the recognition as a significant achievement and an indication of progress in the state’s education sector.

He said the state would continue working to raise educational standards and improve outcomes across its schools.
