The Anambra State Government has inaugurated a three room Value Reformation Project Office in Awka as part of efforts to promote positive values, responsible citizenship and moral reorientation among residents.
The office was opened on Wednesday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, at the ministry’s headquarters in Awka.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mefor described the office as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the value reformation mandate introduced by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
He recalled that stakeholders had recently convened to develop strategies for implementing the ministry’s dual mandate of information dissemination and value reformation.
According to him, the team subsequently leveraged digital technology to develop a working manual, which has been submitted to the governor and the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) for consideration and input.
The commissioner clarified that the new office was not being handed over to any particular organisation but was established as a project office for all partners participating in the value reformation initiative.
He commended the Drivers Welfare Club of Nigeria for equipping the office and demonstrating commitment to the project. Mefor also urged other organisations to support the initiative.
As part of the implementation strategy, Mefor announced plans to expand the existing Malụmebe radio programme on the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) into a syndicated programme across at least five radio stations.
He said the initiative was designed to increase public awareness, promote positive behavioural change and encourage residents to embrace values that support the state’s development.
The commissioner expressed optimism that the expanded programme could gain significant reach within three to six months.
Mefor explained that sponsorship opportunities would be open to individuals and organisations willing to support the campaign, provided their messages remained patriotic, constructive and development oriented.
The commissioner further explained that the value reformation agenda would be implemented through three key approaches: legislation, moral persuasion and enforcement.
According to him, the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice are handling the legislative and enforcement components, while the moral persuasion aspect is expected to commence immediately.
The approach is intended to combine legal measures with public education and voluntary behavioural change to promote responsible conduct among residents.
In separate remarks, the President of the Drivers Welfare Club of Nigeria, Comrade Monday Elimigbe, and the organisation’s Director of Operations, Elvis Oliver Okolie, commended Governor Soludo for initiating the value reformation agenda.
They described the initiative as an important step towards promoting positive values and encouraged continued collaboration among government institutions, community groups and other stakeholders.
The inauguration marks another step in the state government’s efforts to institutionalise its value reformation programme, with radio broadcasting and stakeholder participation expected to play central roles in reaching communities across Anambra State.
