Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has commended the Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd., Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi Emmanuel, for his entrepreneurial drive and contribution to the state’s housing sector.

The governor described Emmanuel as a role model for young people seeking to make meaningful contributions to society through enterprise, noting that private-sector investments play an important role in accelerating development.

Mbah made the commendation on Wednesday during the official commissioning of Hosana Estate in Ibagwa Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area. He was represented at the event by his deputy, Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Ossai said the investment demonstrated the determination of indigenous entrepreneurs to contribute to the growth and development of Enugu State.

He commended Powell Homes and other investors for committing resources to the state, describing their involvement as complementary to the administration’s development agenda.

The deputy governor assured investors and residents of the government’s continued commitment to providing a secure environment for businesses and communities to thrive.

“As government, our primary objective is to provide security for the people, and I’m delighted with what I’ve seen about the estate,” Ossai said.

He urged the developers to maintain effective cooperation with the estate’s management to ensure proper administration and sustainability.

Ossai also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, assuring residents that communities yet to benefit from ongoing projects would receive attention as the government continued its expansion plans.

“On our part, we’ll keep expanding infrastructure, and for all those we’ve not attended to, do not be disappointed. We’re already on that path, and we’re progressing geometrically,” he stated.

The Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Beloved-Dan Anike, commended Powell Homes and Shelters for choosing Ibagwa Nike as the location for the housing development.

Anike noted that the ongoing dualisation of the road had improved the area’s prospects as an emerging urban centre, adding that the estate represented a significant investment in the community’s future.

He described the project as a pioneering venture into an area with considerable economic potential and assured the company of the council’s support for the state government’s development agenda.

The council chairman also noted that housing developments such as Hosana Estate could contribute to efforts to address Nigeria’s housing deficit, particularly in Enugu State.

The traditional ruler of Ibagwa Nike, Igwe Emma Ugwu, expressed satisfaction with the project, assuring the developers of the community’s support for genuine investments that promote local development.

Ugwu recalled that community members had approached him for clarification about the project, adding that he assured them of its alignment with the development aspirations of the state government and the community.

He thanked Emmanuel for selecting Ibagwa Nike for the estate and pledged the community’s continued cooperation towards the project’s success.

Speaking at the commissioning, Emmanuel described Hosana Estate as more than a housing project, saying it represented the outcome of vision, perseverance, partnership and a commitment to improving people’s living conditions.

“Today is not simply about commissioning another housing project. It is a celebration of vision, perseverance, partnership and the power of purpose,” he said.

The Powell Homes managing director attributed the successful completion of the project to God and the collective efforts of the individuals who contributed to its development.

He also expressed appreciation to Governor Mbah and his deputy for honouring the commissioning ceremony.

Emmanuel explained that the company viewed housing as more than the construction of physical structures, describing a home as a source of security, dignity and stability for families.

“At Powell Homes and Shelters, we believe that housing is more than bricks, concrete and physical structures. A home represents security. A home represents dignity. A home provides stability for families,” he stated.

According to him, Hosana Estate was conceived as a planned residential community designed to meet the needs of modern families, rather than merely as a collection of houses.

He listed internal roads, drainage systems, electricity infrastructure, recreational facilities, a synthetic football pitch and a children’s playground among the amenities provided within the estate.

Addressing the challenges of homeownership in Nigeria, Emmanuel acknowledged the country’s housing deficit and the financial difficulties many families face in securing decent accommodation.

He said Powell Homes and Shelters was committed to developing quality homes at affordable price points while exploring innovative financing models, strategic partnerships and other solutions to make homeownership more accessible.

Emmanuel stressed that the commissioning of Hosana Estate marked the beginning of another phase of the company’s growth rather than the conclusion of its development journey.

He disclosed that the company planned to expand its housing projects beyond Enugu State, with the broader objective of developing more homes and communities in other parts of Nigeria where the need for decent housing remains significant.

The expansion plan, he said, reflects the company’s determination to contribute to the housing sector while creating residential communities designed to promote comfort, security and improved living standards.

The commissioning of Hosana Estate highlights the role of private sector participation in housing development and the importance of collaboration between government, investors and host communities.

As Enugu State continues to pursue infrastructure expansion and investment-led growth, developments such as Hosana Estate could contribute to the state’s urban growth, create economic opportunities and support efforts to improve access to housing.

However, the wider impact of such projects will depend on affordability, sustained infrastructure provision and the ability of prospective homeowners to access suitable financing.
